DNR CC means you have expressed your understanding about death as a fact of life. I will honor this and thank you for making it known.
Your breath is labored and your stare is glazed. Your daughter is screaming hysterically.
I will sit here with you. I explain to your daughter that you are transitioning. We are here with you. We are here with your daughter.
“Everything is going to be okay, right?” Your daughter asks through tear filled desperation. “Everything is fine, she is transitioning,” I reassure your daughter.
By the time you take your last breath your daughter has calmed to a state of acceptance. I have answered her questions and addressed her concerns. She says “it is like this is not for real but it is really happening.” “Yes, I understand what you are describing, this is a normal, natural feeling. Everything is fine.”
I wait 3 more minutes to announce your time of death. I speak gratitude for your life and the fact that you will no longer have pain or suffering. I speak to hope that your daughter will have peace and and the gift of always having you in her heart.
I started my shift today with you. Start to finish, we were 10 minutes together in space and time. Everlasting peace be to you.
